The Elliott House Restaurant today is the renovation and extension of a colonial stone farmhouse. It was built between 1836 and 1850. It is believed that the house was built by Adam Elliott, who emigrated from Scotland in 1817. He settled in Pell in 1825, but it was not until 1836, when he purchased this property.
He practiced the Presbyterian Faith and was a subscriber to the Knox College Fund in 1848. He had four children. His son, John, built the first reaping machine in Canada. The 1861 Census lists Adam Elliott as a farmer, originating from Scotland and living in a stone, one story house.
As much of the original detail as possible was maintained. For instance, two of the original fireplaces are seen today, along with the original wood-work and bookcase in the Library. The exterior walls are made of stone and average a thickness of more than two feet.
