Take a guided tour and step back into the year 1918! With more than 160 years of history, this exquisite estate was home to four generations of the Harris and Sayers families. Feel the warmth and pride of workmanship in this home, which has been restored to its quiet elegance of the early 20th century.

Begin your tour at the Visitor Centre. Explore the interpretive gallery; become acquainted with previous generations of the family and discover how Benares came to be. A short walk through the picturesque park-like setting brings you to the Harris family's Georgian style home, filled top to bottom with original family possessions.

Benares is said by some to the inspiration for Canadian author Mazo de la Roche's famed Whiteoaks of Jalna novels. Mazo de la Roche did in fact live in a nearby residence known as Traill Cottage, on land, which once belonged to the Harris family.
A close friend of the family, she lived here while writing several of her world famous novels. What are the mysterious connections between Jalna and Benares? Are they one and the same? Nobody really knows for sure! The property is located at 1507 Clarkson Road North in Mississauga, south of the QEW and east of Southdown Road off of Truscott Drive.
